Okay, so it's been about five years since I've been on here, according to the date of my last journal entry. Let's have an update...

I'm graduating from the University of Texas this upcoming May (2010), and have a few job offers lined up - just need to choose one. Not art-related, though; My degree is in business.

Am I still doing art? Kind of. I'm in a band called Mother Falcon (myspace.com/motherfalconmusic). We've been compared to Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Beirut, Sufjan Stevens, so if you're into that type of stuff, I implore you to go check it out.

I may get back into photography or maybe branch out into something else once I stop having homework and student organizations to do.

8:00 am - arrive in front of Dalton's house. Read note that says not to ring door bell, but something about the equipment (it was a bit illegible). Mosied around for a little while with Ryan and Walker until Dalton's dad opens the door for us.

Sometime later, at 9:15ish, i think, we start to head to the alley behind the Co-op to shoot. After much confusion (downtown is horribly confusing to me), we get there at 9:40ish only to discover that there are people already there and that there will be more traffic in the alleyway when the Co-op opens. We then decide to head back to Dalton's and use the "alleyway" behind the Walgreens. Shoot goes smoothly, despite some odd looks from people. Next scene takes place in the same location, but involves a large car pulling up and masked thugs getting out and shoving John, the main character, into the car. We had to do many takes of this and there were quite a few people wondering what the hell was going on. A fight scene which was supposed to take place in the van is later moved to a garage instead and some other small location changes were made.

Wrap at 4ish. Drop off Rigo, head to Dalton's for pizza, chips, cookies, and swimming with Huan. Head to Rigo's at 5:15ish. Wait for Ryan to arrive. Head to Ryan's. Hang out and play Halo until 6:45. Head to mall. Watch Farenheit 9/11. Head home, and you know the rest. Fortunately, tomorrow's shoot is simple and starts at 10am and then Thursday we take a break. I'm either sleeping in or just hanging out with random people.

Day 2 - Got up at 8ish, got to Dalton's at 9 or 10 (can't quite remember).
Waited awhile for Dalton to get awake and started spray painting the guns for more realism. Can't remember quite what happened after that, but mostly we just hung around and prepped the place for the night's party shoot.

2pm - Leave for Westbank library to audition Ryan S., who drove all the way down from San Antonio, for the part of James. Ryan was a great guy; really dedicated and nice to talk to and a pretty good actor too.

4pm - Wrap up audition (Ryan came late due to traffic). Head to Dalton's. Continue prepping for shoot. James and Dan come at around 5pm to drop off props and lighting.

7pm - Two extras arrive. We (Dalton, Joseph, and I) start panicking since we don't have enough extras. We get everyone there to call up everyone they know and invite them to the shoot.

Night falls later and we've got about fifteen people. We start shooting and it soon gets completely dark. We realize that there isn't enough light outside despite our best efforts (torches, strobe lights, etc) and decide to salvage the shoot by moving it inside. The filming went fairly well, but it definitely wasn't our best job; by that time we were getting quite tired from all the near disasters.

We wrap shooting at about 10:30. Joseph, Dalton, and I stay behind to clean up. Dalton goes to give some people a ride home. A little while later, a patch of Dalton's backyard catches on fire due to a loosely placed torch. Joseph and I manage to contain and exterminate it (phew!).

11:10ish - Go home, fall on bed and go to sleep.

The Next Day
Wake at 7ish. Head to Dalton's at nine. Near disaster when Huan says we may not be able to shoot at his house. Disaster averted when we are given the green light to shoot at 11:00am. Head to Huan's, do the shoot (which went quite smoothly, especially compared to last night). Wrap at 5ish. Get home at 6. Rest, get on dA and write this Journal.

Now I'm off to rest some more. Shooting the next day starts at 9am and I should be up at 7, if not earlier to prep.

8 amWake up, shower, eat, start screening and replying to e-mails (a little under 10) about the "James" role that suddenly opened up when a certain someone dropped from the project.
10 am Leave house to buy some supplies. 1st stop: Goodwill for ski masks/any type of facial covering. None found. 2nd stop: Michael's for spray paint for gun props. Spend 30 mins looking around, only to end up at the cashier who won't sell them to me 'cause I'm under 18 (fucking laws).
11:30 amCome home, having wasted one hour and thirty minutes, and lunch. Attempt to rest a little, surfing dA and taking a small nap.
12:45 pmLeave for Westbank library. Arrive, procrastinate and look at books until 2 pm, at which time Joseph arrives and we start discussing plans for the movie. Fiften minutes afterwards, we find that the meeting has be rescheduled to 3 pm and the place changed to Dalton's.
3 pm Arrive at Dalton's, bum around and raid food supplies while waiting for his arrival.
3:30ish pm Dalton arrives, planning for the night's shooting begins. Set out to Sam's to get batteries, a table for next night's scene, and some other stuff. Arrive at Sam's, spend half an hour buying stuff. Get to cashier. Realize that the table we bought won't fit in my car and will have to be tied onto my roof. Realize that Sam's Club is out of rope/twine/etc and the nearest place to buy any is Walmart (30 mins delay). Due to time constraints, we buy four rolls of duct tape because you cannot buy just one at Sam's Club. Duct tape table to top of car, get funny looks from people driving past, and manage to drive home without encountering any cops, though we did piss quite a few people off and due to Dalton's horrible direction giving skills, a few people probably thought I was drunk as well.
5:30 pm Begin washing Dalton's car for the night's shoot. Wash my car too because duct tape left some marks.
6:55 pm Gather everyone at Westbank library. Meet kid who's going to play John's little brother. Kid leaves, everyone else heads back to Dalton's to begin shooting.
7:20 pm Begin shooting intro scene; a montage of shots of the character John and his three thugs driving around. This consisted of driving back and forth on Bee Caves and Reveille Rd with two cars (one for the camera to move in while filming, the other one to actually be in the shoot). Later shots include me hopping onto the hood of a moving car and getting into various other uncomfortable and unsafe positions to film.
9:15ish pm Scene Ib wraps. Actors leave. Dalton, Joseph, and I stay to review the night's shots.
9:45ish pm Finish reviewing. Leave for home.
10:15 pm Get home, eat dinner, install dryer into new home. Shower. Get on dA and type out this journal.

Today wasn't too busy, but tomorrow's work starts at 8 am and goes on until probably 11:00 pm or possibly later.

Someone gimme a coupon for a free body massage as a very early (half a year) b-day present, please, and it has to be redeemable in late July/early August.

Well, the Austin DevMeet was yesterday and I must say it was pretty interesting. Mainly, it consistied of all the Deviants hanging around the front of Mojo's Cafe just chatting about art, devART, and the future of devART. About half of the 50 who said they were going actually showed up and I believe even less stayed through the whole thing. Some admins - $spot, % rzero, %skittleboi - also showed up and we all managed to get a glimpse of the interface and tools the admins had access to as $spot (whose legal name is actually just Spot (no last name, nada)) pulled out his laptop to unload his cam and hand out the prizes (subs).

Highlight of the day: A chicken crossing the road. Twice. While being chased by about 5 photographers.
